DWARAA
DWARAA is now published in full at dwaraa.org. It is a nonprofit division of Sevadar Foundation Inc., the same 501(c)(3) that operates CareGuard, and it addresses medication burden in older adults — deprescribing, dementia care, non-pharmacological alternatives and restraint-free care, as part of opioid and sedative stewardship.
The six steps are Deprescribing for health optimization, Well-being and cognitive enhancement, Assessment of individual care needs, Reducing medication burden, Advocating for non-pharmacological interventions, and Adjusting care plans on ongoing evaluation. The word is Gurmukhi — ਦੁਆਰਾ, “through” or “gateway.”

Frequently asked questions
What does DWARAA mean?
DWARAA comes from the Gurmukhi word ਦੁਆਰਾ, meaning “through” or “gateway.” Its letters also name the program’s six steps: Deprescribing for health optimization, Well-being and cognitive enhancement, Assessment of individual care needs, Reducing medication burden, Advocating for non-pharmacological interventions, and Adjusting care plans on ongoing evaluation.
What is deprescribing in older adults?
In DWARAA, deprescribing means reducing the medication burden older adults carry. It is the first of six steps, deprescribing for health optimization, and it works alongside non-pharmacological alternatives, dementia care and restraint-free care as part of opioid and sedative stewardship. The full program, with pages for facilities, prescribing clinicians, families and staff, is published at dwaraa.org.
Who runs DWARAA?
